Aesthetic treatments for men: a low-pressure starting point
The conversation looks a little different for men, and that's worth knowing before your first visit.
Interest in aesthetic treatments among men has grown steadily, but the marketing around most treatments is still built for a different audience — which can make the first step feel more awkward than it needs to be. The treatments themselves aren't gendered. The goals and the approach often are.
What men tend to ask for first
The most common starting points are forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and jawline definition. Botox is frequently the first treatment men try, largely because the goal — softening expression lines without changing how the face moves — tends to map cleanly onto what men are usually looking for: less tired or stern-looking, not visibly different.
Dosage often runs higher, not because of gender alone
Men typically have stronger facial musculature than women on average, which sometimes means a higher dose is needed to achieve the same softening effect. This is a physiological consideration, not a pricing gimmick, and it's worth asking your provider to explain rather than assuming a higher number means you're being overcharged.
Jawline and definition are common filler requests
Where women often ask about cheeks or lips, men more frequently ask about jawline and chin definition — filler used to build structure rather than soften it. The planning conversation matters just as much here: overdone jaw filler reads as obviously artificial faster than almost any other treatment.
The consultation conversation is the same one everyone should have
Regardless of gender, the useful questions don't change: what's realistic, what's the plan, and what happens if it needs adjusting. A provider comfortable discussing this plainly, without assuming you already know the terminology, is a good sign of a low-pressure practice.
Common Questions
Quick answers.
Is it more expensive for men?+
Sometimes, because higher doses are often needed for the same visible effect due to stronger facial muscles — not because of a separate men's pricing tier. Ask your provider to walk through the dosage reasoning directly.
What treatment do men usually start with?+
Botox for forehead and frown lines is the most common entry point, followed by jawline or under-eye filler for men interested in more defined structure.
