PDO thread lift vs facelift: clarify the goal before a consultation

A thread lift and a surgical facelift are different procedures. Start by identifying the change you want and asking an appropriately qualified clinician which options fit your anatomy and expectations. A smaller procedure shouldn't be presented as an equivalent result simply because both use the word “lift.”

Describe the concern without choosing the procedure

Point out the area and explain what bothers you in ordinary language. Bring unfiltered photos if they help show a change over time. Tell the clinician about previous threads, fillers, surgery and energy-based treatments.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' thread-lift overview describes evaluation of anatomy and goals when assessing candidacy. A consultation should explain what the proposed treatment can and cannot reasonably change.

Compare the full decision

QuestionWhat to establish
Intended changeWhich part of your concern the procedure addresses
LimitsWhat is unlikely to improve with that approach
RecoveryRestrictions, follow-up and support needs
RisksProcedure-specific complications and their management
LongevityWhat evidence supports the expectation and what varies
Future optionsHow prior treatment affects later assessment

Ask who is qualified to discuss the surgical option. A clinic offering threads may need to refer you to a plastic surgeon for a facelift assessment. That referral can be a useful outcome of the conversation.

Don't compare a package price with a surgical estimate

Make sure each quote includes the services actually proposed: consultation, procedure, facility costs where applicable, follow-up and treatment of complications. Ask about repeat treatment and what it would cost if the result doesn't meet the agreed goal.

No online price comparison can decide suitability or establish a personal result. Avoid a deadline-driven purchase before you understand the limitations.

Leave room for a second opinion

If recommendations differ substantially, ask each clinician to explain the anatomical findings and goals behind the advice. Keep records of prior procedures so another professional can assess the same history.

Read the thread-lift consultation guide and recovery questions. To request an aesthetic consultation, explain the concern rather than selecting a treatment solely from a menu. A suitable plan may include referral, a different procedure or no procedure.
